The truth about wanting money.

Attracting more money into your life is easy when it’s purpose-driven. Why work at making more money unless you know exactly what you’ll do with it? Making money is always a trade off because it takes your time and attention away from other things that are important to you. That’s fine if the extra money helps you pursue and achieve your highest priorities. So the first question is “What are you going to do with more money?” The clearer you are on this, the easier it is to “attract all the money you want” or need. 1) The purpose of money is to “Do what you want” Do you need more time freedom? What are you going to do with more time? You can always get more money — but no one gets more than 24 hours in a day. More money gives you new choices how you spend your time. If money was no object, how would you spend your week or your month? What does your perfect day look like? These are questions that only you can answer. If you could do anything you wanted, what would you do? Sometimes ...

My Experience as a Life Coach

Here’s the thing:   you don’t need to have a pristine life to be a coach . Coaching is about inquiry, asking the right questions, listening, empathy, and empowering someone to become their best self. I know many talented coaches whose life doesn’t look that great on social media — some of these coaches aren’t even on social media at all! They make a living because their clients recommend their services. They are talented coaches because they know how to coach, not because their life is perfect or they know how to run an auto drip campaign on MailChimp. I don’t do much 1-on-1 coaching, because personally, given my background and the counseling in ministerial training, I think I can provide more value writing, speaking, and doing workshops, but when someone approaches me about hiring me as their career coach, I ask them why they want to work with me. If they say anything close to “your life is awesome, I want your life,” I don’t respond to their email. Don’t get me wrong, my...

Unlocking your Beliefs

Today, I'm going to speak to something that can really hold you back.  Something that can s pread to every aspect of your behavior, thinking, and personality, keeping you locked in tight, immobile and helpless.  This is the mental plague of limiting beliefs! So how do you know if Limiting Beliefs are causing havoc in your life? - Well start by answering the questions below: Do you feel that you don’t deserve some things in life? Do you doubt your own abilities when you have to do something that isn’t part of your usual routine? Do you feel that you are somehow inferior compared to your colleagues or peers? Are you afraid of sharing your own ideas because they might be rejected? Do you doubt your own skills and abilities and refuse to use them when the opportunity arises for you to showcase your capabilities? Are you watching your contemporaries rise to the top while you are still near the bottom, still ‘not ready’ for the big time? Do you have trouble trust...

In this life, you live a life of love while you're alive or you will leave a legacy of love. Either way, it's all about l💙ve. -Edna J White So many times in our lives we get consumed with one thought or one objective that brings us and those around us no happiness. All because we were not validated in our childhood and we act out emotionally in response to others. We need to stop and realize that our lives have gone cold and that we offer nothing to those around us.  Do you have a love interest?  Do you enjoy days with your siblings?  Do you have healthy friendships?  Does your phone ring just from a friend reaching out to say hi? All these questions and more should be asked of yourself and take a few minutes to look into. Our lives are not always one thing or one-sided. Just work or just play. It's a balance that you are an addition to those titles or roles you play like daughter, son, sister, mother, wife, husband, worker, En...

A Lesson in Cheating

Image
An Intimate Lesson A client asked me recently to write about cheating in romantic relationships. This is a touchy subject because it stings so much. I’ve experienced the pain of cheating first hand, and I can tell you I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. All a relationship is after all is two people learning how to trust one another. Trust is the foundation of everything else. Without trust, there isn’t a relationship. When cheating happens, that trust is shattered. And it’s very hard to get it back (not impossible). There are different perspectives on cheating. For me, it’s a deal breaker. For my therapist, she has seen many a couple work through it and come back even stronger. There’s no right or wrong way to look at it, but there is a deeper lesson inside the painful act of cheating that I’d like to speak to. I’ve worked with many clients who have been cheated on in different ways: sexually and emotionally. Sexual cheating is when you have sex outside the relations...

Have a Creative Outlet

Do you have a creative outlet in your life?  You may be lucky to work in a creative field that stimulates your mind of creativity but there are some who find it a lot harder to get that innate creativity.    When I was young, I assumed that creativity was all about your ability to: paint draw sculpt dance create music But it is about a those and a whole lot more. And that’s why we all need a creative outlet — it's not to simply create things — but to allow ourselves to fully express our true selves. We allow our own inner light to shine through in our creations. When was the last time you sat down and colored?  Why don’t we do that kind of thing anymore? I finally realized that the only thing that allows my mind to completely "go quiet" is writing. Yet it still has taken me years to recognize that I could actually cultivate this habit. I grew up with voices in my head that said creative activities were for kids and not a productive...

Self-kindness is self-care

I hope you're having a good holiday. I'm spending mine so far on just relaxing and decompressing with my family after a very full 2016. Now, the newsletter today is about one area that I've written a lot about in the past four years and that is still very close to my heart. It is what I like to call self-kindness. It's close to my heart because it has meant so much to me. By being kinder towards myself, I have become happier, more effective and motivated and it has helped me to become kinder and better in my relationships with other people too. But it's also close to my heart because almost every week I read in the newspapers and in my inbox how people's self-worth seems to get worse. If you  do not feel so good about yourself , if you think that your self-esteem is a bit low or you beat yourself up regularly when making a mistake then there are things you can do. There are habits you can develop within yourself to become more self-rel...

Learn to Let Go

“Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it.” —David Foster Wallace The new moon was beautiful, but it lasted only so long. Once it was over, it was over. In time, perfection is tainted by life’s hurried blemishes, to die a thousand deaths.  We often look at the things we enjoy—relationships, experiences, possessions—and we want to hold on to them forever. We expect that these things will continue to add the same value to our lives, day in and day out. However, they don't and we tend to hang on to that past value for dear life, like a wild animal to its season's first food.   And letting go of distractions or huge mental burdens (that can also become physical as stress and worries pile up), can be just that type of feat. Today, I hope I can share some techniques for letting go of emotional suffering. The best way to get rid of painful and negative emotions is to let them go. Learning to let go of the emotions is extremely difficult. Letting go ...
